Amish Cookies

Makes 7-1/2 dozen

Ingredients:

2-1/2 c sugar
1-1/8 c shortening
3 eggs
2/3 c dark molasses
1 c sour milk
6-1/2 c flour
2 tbsp baking powder
3 tbsp cinnamon
2 tbsp soda
1-1/2 tsp nutmeg
2 c oatmeal
1 c raisins
3/4 c chopped peanuts or walnuts

Method:

1. Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs and beat well.

2. Add milk and molasses, alternately with sifted dry ingredients.

3. Add oatmeal, raisins and nuts. Mix with hands. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes.
