Red Snow Sugar Cookies
Make colored sugar to sprinkle on the cookies to make ‘Red Snow’
for your little elves.

Ingredients:
1 1/2 c. sifted powdered sugar
1 c. butter
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. almond extract
2 1/2 c. all purpose flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
Red colored sugar (recipe follows)
Method:
1. Mix sugar and butter. Add egg and flavorings and mix
thoroughly.
2. Measure flour and sift with dry ingredients and blend into
butter mixture, mixing well.
3. Refrigerate the dough for 2-3 hours. When ready to bake, divide
dough in half and roll out to 3/16 inch thick on lightly floured
pastry cloth.
4. Cut out cookies with floured round cookie cutter.
5. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet and sprinkle cookies
with powdered colored red sugar.
6. Bake in preheated 375 degree oven for about 10-15 minutes or
till done. Let cool on a rack.
Make Your Own Colored Sugar
You can use store-brought sugar to sprinkle on the cookies but
it is also very easy and inexpensive to make your own. And you can
keep in stored in jars for months.
Ingredients:
1 cup powdered sugar
2 drops red (or any color) liquid food color
Directions:
Put regular sugar into a blender to make powdered sugar.
Place powdered sugar into a jar with a tight fitting lid. Drip the
food coloring onto the sugar, close the lid, and shake vigorously
for about 1 minute.
Adjust color with additional food coloring and repeat if the color
is too light.
